Oppo Ditches Standard Pro Model for the Find X10 Pro Max
Oppo has skipped the traditional standard Pro tier for its new flagship lineup, launching only the base Find X10 and the Find X10 Pro Max. The company says the move reflects a major capability leap that pushed the base model into Pro territory.
Why Oppo eliminated the middle tier
Oppo argues that the entry-level Find X10 gained enough premium features to replace the previous generation's Pro slot directly.
Flagship product tiers usually follow an established ladder: standard, Pro, and occasionally a Pro Max or Ultra at the top. Oppo upended that playbook by introducing just the Find X10 alongside the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max, leaving the familiar middle tier empty.
According to Oppo Smartphone Product Director Jensen Jie, speaking at a media roundtable attended by TechRadar, the change came down to feature creep. Oppo decided the standard Find X10 had already surpassed last year's Find X9 Pro in hardware capability. Selling a phone called 'Pro' directly above it would have muddied the value proposition.
Instead of inventing artificial differentiation, Oppo pushed the higher-end phone further upmarket and tagged it with the 'Pro Max' suffix to signal the wider gap.
Sending a signal to buyers
Smartphone makers frequently rename models to justify pricing shifts across tiers, especially as flagship hardware approaches the ultra-premium brackets occupied by luxury flagships like the Apple iPhone Duo. Oppo insists this decision was about clarity rather than brand inflation. Jie noted that the company wanted to send an unambiguous message to both consumers and retail channels that the Find X10 Pro Max represents far more than an iterative refresh over the Find X9 Pro.
At the same time, maintaining a recognizable entry point mattered. Oppo kept the base model's name simple because mainstream buyers still look for a straightforward flagship without extra modifiers. An Ultra variant could still arrive in 2027, following the cadence established by earlier generations, but for now, the lineup consists strictly of these two endpoints.
Borrowing the 'Pro Max' moniker without releasing a regular Pro feels slightly absurd on paper, but the logic holds up. If the baseline Find X10 genuinely outpaces last year's Pro model, skipping a redundant middle tier prevents the kind of spec cannibalization that plagues other Android lineups. The real test will be whether carrier shelves and shoppers understand the leap without a familiar anchor in between.
Availability and pricing
Oppo unveiled the Find X10 and Find X10 Pro Max at its launch event, but regional rollout dates and localized retail pricing for Europe, the UK, and other international markets have not been detailed yet. As with prior Find-series hardware, North American carrier availability is not expected.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no regular Oppo Find X10 Pro?
Oppo omitted the standard Pro because it upgraded the base Find X10 to match and exceed the capabilities of the previous Find X9 Pro, making an intermediate model redundant.
Will there be an Oppo Find X10 Ultra?
Oppo has not officially announced a Find X10 Ultra yet, though an Ultra tier remains possible for later in the product cycle based on previous release schedules.
