Amazon Blink Adds 4K Video and a 7,000-Foot Wireless Range

Amazon's budget security brand Blink has launched five new cameras, introducing 4K video resolution and extended-range proprietary wireless links designed to work thousands of feet beyond standard home Wi-Fi. Preorders start today at $50.

4K capture arrives on the budget shelf

Blink entered ultra-high definition with the compact Blink Mini 4K Plus for $80.

Until now, Blink focused on 1080p and 2K video feeds to protect multi-year battery life and keep hardware cheap. The Blink Mini 4K Plus breaks that ceiling. Priced at $80, it serves indoor and outdoor setups with a 115-degree viewing field and two-way voice audio, undercutting typical 4K competitors by a wide margin.

The trade-off is physical size. The Mini 4K Plus is noticeably larger than previous wired Mini units to house the denser image sensor. Still, getting uncompressed high resolution without a complicated wired NVR setup represents a distinct shift for the lineup.

Two extended-range cameras use the Sync Module XR Plus hub to bypass standard home Wi-Fi limits.

Standard Wi-Fi collapses once a camera moves past an exterior wall. Blink's answer is its new XR protocol, pairing specialized cameras with the Blink Sync Module XR Plus hub to transmit video across open land.

Leading the group is the $200 Frontier XR Plus. Armed with an external antenna and a tree-mounting trunk strap, it maintains a link up to 7,000 feet under clear line-of-sight conditions. While pitched alongside trail cameras, Blink general manager Chris Liguori confirmed it targets distant property boundaries, driveway gates, and remote outbuildings.

For smaller yards, the $150 Blink Outdoor 2K XR Plus reaches up to 2,700 feet, which is plenty for a detached garage, barn, or workshop.

Blink skipping Wi-Fi entirely on the XR models is the real breakthrough. Cellular trail cameras cost a fortune in monthly data plans. If the Frontier XR Plus reliably beams 2K footage over half a mile to an indoor hub, it will quickly become an essential fix for large, rural lots.

Spotlights and mechanical tracking

Two other models complete the launch. The $110 Blink Spotlight Cam 2K Plus runs wire-free, dodging junction boxes and outdoor wiring. It fires LEDs via motion detection, though battery drain on active nights remains an open question.

At the entry tier sits the $50 Blink Mini Pan-Tilt 2K Plus, offering 350-degree horizontal panning, 115-degree tilt, and automated subject tracking. Outdoor use requires a separate weatherproofing adapter sold separately.

Like other Amazon hardware—such as the Amazon Bee wearable—these cameras integrate tightly with Alexa while skipping Google Home and Apple HomeKit support.

Availability and pricing

All five new Blink cameras are available for preorder today from Amazon in the United States, priced between $50 and $200. UK and EU availability dates have not yet been announced.

Cloud storage starts at $4 monthly per camera, with optional tiers adding AI video descriptions. Blink's Sync Modules support local storage via USB drives, though Blink has not confirmed whether local offline recording works with the XR models.

Blink is moving past simple living room monitors. The leap to 4K and long-range wireless makes for a compelling package, provided the brand's legendary battery longevity survives the upgrade.
